Points for Purple
Outfit time!
This one has some fun, wearable colour which is totally my jam. I like how the crazy energy of the dots on the blouse is counterbalanced by the relaxed fit. I must admit that I sometimes envy those who have the discipline to just wear one colour at a time because that would be a challenge for me! So, I'll go with what I know and do some fun purples and blues. Coincidentally, the two brightest pieces (blouse and scarf) are from thrift stores (in Australia and the U.S.).

Silver + Blue Angles
Hey everyone!
I thought I would show you an outfit with some of my favourite old and new pieces. I'm so into this gorgeous blue coat which was made by my friend's grandmother. I know - amazing. It reminds me of Audrey Hepburn's style in the 1950s. I also love thrift shopping and wanted to showcase some thrifted pieces. You never know what treasure you'll find!

Beauty Favourites May 2016 (Cruelty-Free)
Hello, lovely people!
There are a handful of great products that I want to share with you as I have been really enjoying them this month. To my knowledge, all the products in this post are cruelty-free (i.e. have not been tested on animals) and I am really working toward only acquiring cruelty-free makeup products, rather than products from companies known to test on animals. Also, I really like how they work which is obviously very important - there would be no point in raving about an average product just because it's cruelty-free!
First up is the FRIZZY LOGIC SHINE SERUM from the Australian company O&M. The bottle I have contains 50ml (1.7 fl oz) and so far it seems to have lasted a good while. This is because I tend to just need one squirt of the serum into my hand and then I run it through the ends of my hair. This works well for my hair which is long, wavy and prone to fluffiness, so the serum adds a modest amount of definition. Plus it smells like luscious coconut with a hint of guava. Delicious!
I was on the hunt for a natural deodorant with a scent I like and I actually found one! It is the BODY CRYSTAL ROLL-ON DEODORANT in the scent Wildflowers (80ml). The scent is light and floral - something that appeals to me for an everyday deodorant. More importantly, it does not contain aluminium or alcohol which means it is better for keeping my armpits happy and safe. I found it in a health food store but I think it is also carried in some supermarkets and drugstores, so go have a look!
Oh my goodness, can we please take a moment to appreciate Antipodes? Each product that I have tried from this wonderful New Zealand brand, I have been mightily impressed. These next two items are no exception: the ANTIPODES VANILLA POD HYDRATING DAY CREAM (15ml / 0.5 fl oz) and the ANTIPODES DIVINE FACE OIL with avocado oil and rosehip. I got these two mini versions in a MOISTURE BOST MINI pack, so they are smaller than the full-size of each product. The day cream feels wonderfully moisturising and has natural ingredients such as shea butter, manuka honey, grapeseed oil, macadamia oil, mandarin oil...the list goes on. It also smells of a gorgeous combination of vanilla and orange (like an almond and orange cake), which makes it all the more pleasurable to apply. The face oil is lovely too, leaving a rich moist finish when applied before bedtime. I love to eat avocado, so why shouldn't my skin be able to drink avocado oil (in this face oil)?! So very dreamy.
Speaking of rosehip, I have tried out another rosehip-infused product from the New Zealand brand Essano. It is the ESSANO ROSEHIP GENTLE FOAMING FACIAL CLEANSER to be exact. To be honest, I don't often use a cleanser as I have sensitive and often dry skin. However, I found this Essano cleanser to be very gentle and pleasant on my skin. It also has a subtle rosy, musk smell which is fine with me. I am glad I tried this brand as I like to support New Zealand and Australian brands when possible!
Even in the cooler Australian weather, I like to use a bronzer to add warmth to my makeup look. I have been quite enjoying the GLO MINERALS BRONZER in Sunkiss. It is quite a soft bronzer with a matte brown side and a golden shimmery side. The colours might look somewhat warm in the photographs but with a light application, in real life it works a treat. A light application adds just enough warmth without looking too summery. The fact that one side is more matte than the other means I can use either shimmer, matte or a combination depending on my mood. I just really like it!
Sometimes, I just love a great face brush. Time after time, I have come back to this trusty ECOTOOLS BRUSH - I think have the superseded version of the precision blush brush. It is so velvety soft and has a big enough head that it can be used for blush, bronzer and even powder. The bristles have lasted many a wash and the brush has kept its shape, so I am very glad that I have this in my collection. Did I mention it was soft?...
Last but certainly not least in my beauty favourites for May is the ESSENCE VELVET MATTE LIPSTICK in the shade 24. Back story: I was looking for a cruelty-free drugstore dupe for the MAC lipstick in the shade Rebel, which is a similar deep plum purple colour. However, since MAC apparently tests products on animals, I was keen to find a cruelty-free and inexpensive dupe. I am definitely satisfied with this Essence lipstick which gives a gorgeous dark berry colour and lasts for a decent time on the lips (as long as you use lip liner). This vampy shade is right up my alley in the colder weather - so chic.
So those are my favourite beauty items of May 2016 and I am ever striving towards acquiring products that have not been tested on animals instead of those that have. Let me know your recommendations for any cruelty-free brands you like. Thanks for stopping by!
All products were purchased with my own money, except for the hair serum which is from a family member. This post contains no paid content.

Positive Shift + Influencers
I've been recently thinking a lot about change; transformation, empowerment, clarity. As happens with many intangible aspects of life, I cannot pinpoint exactly when/where/how this started or who/what influenced me, but I have felt my perspective on various things become less fixed. By exposing myself over time to different voices and stories out there in the world, there has been more to choose from and I have been able to start honing my values and question my actions. Let me be clear: this is not in a 'I can't believe I blindly did X for years' way, but more of a 'Look at all the opportunities I have to try a different perspective' way. Being positive and self-assured is way more productive than being negative about oneself, I have found. .
Although I cannot attribute this shift to a precise moment or piece of information in space-time, there have been several key players that have influenced me in the most recent chapter of this adventure called l.i.f.e.:
- Elizabeth Gilbert - author, speaker, spreader of joy and big magic
- The Minimalists (Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus) - authors, podcasters, filmmakers
- Jess Lively - teacher, podcaster, spirit uplifter
- The film The True Cost - must-watch documentary about the current fashion world
- Marie Kondo - tidying guru, author, clothes folder
...And that's before I even get started on music, food, art or a bunch of other things. (I'll get back to you on that.)
There is so much inspiring, powerful, useful, humbling content out there in so many forms: paper books, audio books, podcasts, blogs, social media, photographs, music, radio, brick-and-mortar organisations, community groups; the list goes on. All we have to do is be open to one voice, one story, and then the light will shine on in.
Feel free to share what/who/where is inspiring you!

Eyeshadow Palette Collection + 7 Deadly Sins of Beauty
Hi everyone!
There are a couple of new videos up on my YouTube channel all about the makeups! One of them is a good ol' tag about the 'seven sins' of beauty - an interesting take on the whole thing... The other is one of my favourite types of beauty videos: a collection video - of my eyeshadow palettes, to be terribly specific. These may or my not have been filming a tiny little while ago but I still wanted to post them. Thanks for watching!
I also have links on Facebook and Twitter - see details in the description box of my videos.

Beauty Favourites - Late Summer 2016
Hello! I come to you with a new video about my beauty favourites from recent times i.e. late summer 2016. With hot weather going up to 40 degrees Celsius in sunny Australia, I have favoured a light and easy approach to makeup and perfume - especially to avoid melting everywhere. Thank you for tuning in and let me know some of your summer favourites!

Video: Collective Thrift Haul
I just love a good trip to the thrift store! With a bit of patience and optimism, you can hit upon a trove of treasures, usually consisting of clothing and accessories, in my case. It was definitely encouraging to see Steph and Melissa from the Fashion Citizen on YouTube (@fashion_citizen) make thrifting look like an art. I like to try my hand at it from time to time and was very lucky to find some nice things. I recommend checking out your local thrift store or op shop next time you're on the look-out for something specific or just fun. Buying preloved items is better for the environment than new clothes and it's cheaper, too. Just bring a discerning eye - or friend.

Video: What's in My Bag (Day to Day)
Hey everyone!
A while back, Estée Lalonde (the artist formerly known as Essie Button) did a video with her grandma with the tag 'What's in My Bag'. It was so sweet and I could not get over the fantastic calculator that her grandma has! I was totally inspired to do my own version of the video, albeit sans calculator. It was filmed a little while ago but it's still very much my routine. Warning: this video contains a mobile phone with buttons!! a.k.a. a non-smartphone.
I hope you enjoy the video. See you next time!

See me delve into the collection of long-held treasures and shop my makeup stash. Thanks for watching!

MAC + Nyx
Sometimes, it's about the three-letter brands. MAC. NYX. YES. I recently had occasion to acquire some such products and was pretty impressed. Myy precioussses. Although MAC cosmetics are available in Australia, I just find them too highly priced to justify. For example, a MAC lipstick in Australia costs $36AUD compared to in Canada $20CAD, where the exchange rate is pretty similar. I decided a while ago to avoid buying MAC cosmetics in Australia because they charge too much, in my opinion. Anyway, I found Allanaramaa's blog sale and that was the end of that. I ordered the two MAC lipsticks and two MAC eye shadows in this post and they are all so pretty! The Nyx items I purchased at Target in Australia.
L-R: Nyx Blush in Dusty Rose, MAC Lipstick in Fire Sign, MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo
- Nyx Powder Blush in PB02 Dusty Rose - My first Nyx blush and I like it a lot! The Dusty Rose colour is just that; flattering and more peach- than grey-based. The matte formula is nice and smooth; it is pigmented enough without transferring too much colour. It is a smart, safe and affordable blush, people! (I'm also keen to check out the Cinnamon shade - mentioned by non other than @KathleenLights1 - but I'm not sure if Target Australia carries it.)
- MAC Lipstick in Fire Sign (Lustre) - This and Ruby Woo below are my first MAC lipsticks ever! The (self-imposed) wait is finally over. Fire Sign is a goregous orange-red sheen. I cannot stop wearing this! It doesn't last too long, but that's fine with me because I like to re-apply it. If you're after a pretty, versatile lustre lipstick from MAC, please consider Fire Sign.
- MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo (Matte) - I know, I know. Everybody loves this. And now, I'm part of the club. It's such a beautiful, classic red lipstick. There are no more words.
Both photos L-R: Nyx Damage Control, MAC Star Violet, MAC Cranberry, Nyx Heat
- MAC Eye Shadow in Star Violet (Veluxe Pearl) - A very nice, warm, mulberry/mauve pink colour with a subtle gold sheen. So so beautiful. The Veluxe Pearl finish is quite pigmented and buttery, if you will.
- MAC Eye Shadow in Cranberry (Frost) - A very popular shade and for good reason: cool cranberry pink/red with a luscious frosted finish... Yes. This colour is absolutely beautiful, so check it out if you're on the hunt for a deep pink eye shadow. Class.
- Nyx Hot Singles Eye Shadow in HS70 Heat - A beautiful, warm, orange red with good pigmentation, reminiscent of cinnamon. Perhaps a more daring colour but I think it is so yummy. My first Nyx eye shadow, as well.
- Nyx Hot Singles Eye Shadow in HS14 Damage Control - Lastly, a warm medium grey with a subtle amount of shimmer. The pigmentation is less strong than Heat, but this is no problem for me as I'm happy to keep building it up. This also helps it stay looking chic by not being too obvious. The first grey eye shadow I have had in a long time, or possibly ever.
- Real Techniques Silicone Liner Brush - I have been searching for a fine eye liner brush for a while to use with my current favourite Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner. Real Techniques has a good reputation for a drugstore makeup brush brand, so I thought I would give their Silicone Liner Brush a go. I am glad I did! This brush has a silicone point (no bristles), so you can easily make a clean, single line with your liner. It's perhaps less fussy than other eye liner brushes with individual bristles (animal hair or human-made). It's also very easy to clean - bonus!
- ELLE Australia Magazine July 2015 - ELLE Australia has been my favourite fashion and lifestyle magazine since it launched in October 2013. If I could work for a magazine, ELLE Australia would be it. The team at @ELLEaus do a fantastic job and the magazine is edgy as heck. The July 2015 issue features the stunning Nicole Warne of @garypeppergirl as well as other coolios. If you don't get this month's issue, keep an eye out for next month's one!
